Honoring the volunteer efforts of Beauticontrol Director Marjory Takach
Volunteer Service Grant Amount Awarded: $15,000
While attending the New Mexico Advocacy in Action Conference Wellness Fair, a serendipitous meeting occurred between Marjory and Haven House representatives. Their interests matched and an alliance ensued. In Marjory’s words, "I was excited to help this organization since it aligned perfectly with the W.H.O. Foundation's mission to support organizations dedicated to women, children and families in need."
Haven House Services is the only provider of emergency shelter and social services for victims of domestic violence serving Sandoval County in New Mexico. Their mission is to help victims reach immediate safety as well as gain the knowledge, skills, and resources to succeed in lives free of violence.
Haven House operates an eight bedroom emergency shelter for women and children who are fleeing abusive situations. Residents are provided an array of services to include: 24/7 crisis intervention, legal advocacy, case management, community and shelter support groups, individual counseling, life skills programs, and community education and training.
Marjory became a volunteer, passionately going about raising funds and community awareness for the organization. In just a few weeks, she set up a Community Outreach event, "Beauti Boot Camp" and raised $350 in one evening to benefit the shelter. She has also created a perpetual fundraiser for the shelter in which she shares 50% of her profits from clients who were referred by Haven House (volunteers, staff, board members, friends and affiliates). In just three weeks, she raised $900 for the shelter. Since then, she has held a "Spa Night" at the shelter to pamper the survivors as well as the shelter staff.
I would like everyone at the W.H.O. Foundation to know the enormous impact this grant has made in the appearance and operation of the facility. We are eternally grateful for this blessing!
