Honoring the efforts of Assistance League of Stockton

The Byron Saunders Foundation

Volunteer Service Grant Amount Awarded: $5,000

Many children who’ve been abruptly taken from their homes and placed in foster care may arrive with little to no possessions of their own. The Assistance League of Stockton partners with the Child Abuse Prevention Council to provide backpacks for these children. Even as basic as these backpacks are, the look on their faces is priceless, as they discover a stuffed animal or toy, book, blanket, flashlight, school supplies, hygiene kit, water bottle and socks, within it.

As a volunteer at the Assistance League, Independent Beauticontrol Consultant, Marilyn Doud, applied for a W.H.O. grant on their behalf. “I am very proud to be a partner with the Assistance League of Stockton in caring for people in our community suffering in poverty, abusive relationships, and other social issues. This organization uplifts them so that they may have a chance to achieve their full potential as productive members of society.”

The W.H.O. (Women Helping Others) Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Assistance League of Stockton to purchase $20 gift cards to be placed in 250 backpacks so that the children may select and purchase additional items specific to their individual needs.

“Receiving this grant of $5,000 is a huge benefit as we can focus those resources on outstanding programs such as the Court Appointed Special Advocates program that protects foster children,” said Sue Sherrow, President. “We can now give these wonderful children backpacks so that when they are transferred to another home or facility, they can have something of their own to help them transport their belongings.”
